Devastating Update on UPS Incident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the transport jet which ignited and went down has risen to 13, according to latest statements.

Official's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the relatives, associates and co-workers of all who were taken in this week’s calamity. We will get through this together.”

Victims Named

A statement from UPS listed the pilots operating the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts reach out to all UPSer who has been touched and everyone in our community region – supporting you and making sure you get the attention and resources you need is our main concern,” the company’s statement stated.

Investigation Details

Federal officials announced that the UPS cargo plane’s wing caught fire and an engine detached shortly after liftoff from the aviation hub, leading to the jet to plummet and explode into a blaze.

The safety agency has said it is probing the plane’s upkeep logs, which was in Texas for repairs weeks before the crash.

Aviation records revealed the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was there in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, not giving a specific time frame. “We will look at each aspect of service that was completed, including the San Antonio period, right up to the day of the flight.”

Retrieval of Vital Evidence

The audio device and information unit were retrieved, and the motor was found on the airfield.

The devices – called black boxes – were built to endure collision damage and intense fire from infernos, and they seemed to be undamaged when located within the remains. Investigators intend to analyzing information from the devices.

Jet’s concluding recorded information showed an height of 475 feet and a velocity of 210 mph ahead of the accident.

Repair History

Based on aviation authority records dated that date, a fracture on a structural piece in the fuel container needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it provides structural repairs for UPS’s jet and operates a service location in Texas, declined to provide remarks, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials approached it.

Operations Continue

In the meantime, the facility services resumed last night with its express or nighttime procedure, representative the company official said. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were likewise back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s biggest. The hub engages more than twenty thousand workers in the region, processes numerous flights daily and sorts more than a huge volume of packages each hour.

Local Response

A memorial was organized on the evening of 6 November by the area labor union, which supports workers at the airfield, the company’s largest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which stands for employees, started the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the rough time of the incident before.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so surprising,” the leader told the group of attendees. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
